Spring 2008

It looks like spring in my garden already. The woodland hyacinths are blooming and the crocuses will open completely any time now. The tulips have poked their green stems out of the ground and get a little higher each day. I hope a late cold snap doesn’t come along and hurt them.

Stay warm and watch out for tricksters on April Fool’s Day (Apr. 1). Then join a May Day celebration on May 1. The first weekend in May, in Rochester, Kent, the Sweeps Festival allows the chimney sweeps to lay down their tools and have a bit of fun. Next, enjoy a long weekend when the Early May Bank Holiday falls on May 5.

Make your travel plans or get ready for a DIY weekend with the Spring Bank Holiday on May 26. If you find yourself in Sussex on May 29, be sure to protect your back side. Some children still celebrate Pinch-Bum-Day on Oak Apple Day. Then take time on June 21 to spend time with dear old dad on his special day.

Oh, yes, do remember England’s patron saint on Apr. 23, St. George’s Day. Find out about the man and the legend from In a Nutshell. Keep reading to learn what happens when you just throw away that old computer.

Test your memory by matching the quote to the speaker in Treehouse Games. Then jump over to Treehouse Trivia to read about minding your Ps and Qs and a possible inspiration for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Finally, we would like to ask for your help in maintaining security at PineCone Research.
