All things spooky arrive in October. Have your pumpkin ready for carving by Punky Night on Oct. 26. The tradition in southern England includes contests for the best jack-o-lantern and group marches through the streets with lanterns and songs. Prepare for the scariest night of the year (Oct. 31) with a test of your Halloween knowledge in Treehouse Games.

For a bit more fun, return to the days of your childhood by reading In a Nutshell. There’s a piece on the game of conkers. The World Conkers Championship will be held Oct. 15. Keep on reading to uncover the obsession of Great Britain’s desperate housewives.

The celebration of Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night (Nov. 5) go hand in hand. Bonfire Night commemorates the Gunpowder Plot, but it originated with the pagans just like Halloween. Next up, the type of fire changes to hearth and candles for Christmas on Dec. 25 followed by Boxing Day on Dec. 26. Finally, welcome in 2007 on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.

When you’re not playing conkers or getting your costume ready, stop by Treehouse Trivia to find out what’s making you so sleepy after your eat and to learn about the latest in vision improvement.
